I'll attempt to be concise as the language gods have slapped me down, humbling me once again and caused me to inadvertently wipe out several paragraphs of what was probably poorly worded explanation. Thee are programs that none of those come with that you can get as well, if you want and depending on what you are doing, say reverse engineering rather than forensics or pen testing. BlackArch and Kali offer versions already packed in a VM. Parrot and BlackArch don't turn off networking.Īctually BlackArch, Parrot and Kali are just versions of the distros they're based on with a particular collection of programs and you can install a minimal OS and then add their respective repositories for the same functionality. I don't see why Kali can't be updated as normal other than the networking stuff being turned off, but that can be enabled and I really don't see why they turn that stuff off considering it's supposed to be a pen testing OS among other things. Kali is Ubuntu based Parrot is Debian based and it can be updated as normal. although if you look into that there are advantages for all that stuff if that's important to you.
Some people install any Linux on several partitions and some others even use different file systems on particular partitions but it's not necessary.

Some distros seem to do better if you give them at least two partitions, one of those being a "home" partition but most will run on a single partition, plus a swap partition. If you are only running two OS then it should be easy., just set up a boot partition, say 200 MB at the first of the drive, format that to FAT 32 then at least one large partition for each OS and a shared swap of about double the size of your RAM. I run several systems with multiboot configurations.
